The surgical instrument has an active electrode (3) and a neutral electrode (1), where the both electrodes are arranged on a handle. The active electrode is formed with its effective area in an annular manner. The active electrode has a circular front surface which has a circular depression (5) in its central region. The peripheral edge of the depression defines the effective area. An electrical insulator (2,4) is arranged in the bottom of the depression.
