The method involves measuring a depth profile of local sinking depth caused by a person on a couch surface (MO) of a measuring mattress (M). A mattress model (MA) scaled on dimensions of the mattress is completely or partially displayed on a picture screen (B1). The model is designed as three-dimensional mold body. The measured depth profile of the person is completely or partially blended in the mattress model, where size and form of a body model of the person is scaled to the measured depth profile. The body model is blended into the depth profile of the mattress model in correct position. An independent claim is also included for a device for virtually displaying a person resting on a mattress on a picture screen.
