The method involves arranging a workpiece (32) on a workpiece retainer (12), and providing a probe head (28) with a button element (30). A set of measuring parameters defining movement of the head relative to the workpiece is provided. Another set of measuring parameters defining modified movement of the head relative to the workpiece is determined from the measurement values. Another set of measurement values is provided for representing spatial position of the element during movement of the head, and measuring curves are determined based on the latter set of values.
