A method for measuring and monitoring machining steps during machining of workpieces in which an image processing system (43) is provided with its imaging area aligned with a measurement or monitoring position on the workpiece. The measured position can be compared with a design position and alterations made as necessary. The invention also relates to a corresponding device for implementation of the inventive method.
