The method involves determining starting point of time of the actuator by evaluating a time actual current curve by the magnetic coil (15). A modeled current path with respect to the un-moved actuator is determined by the magnetic coil during the control of the magnetic coil. The actual current curve is determined during the driving of the magnetic coil and compared with the modeled current path, when reaching a predetermined difference between the two current waveforms during detection of starting point of time of actuator. An independent claim is included for device for determining starting point such as begin motion point (BMP) of time of electromechanical actuator.
