The transmission (10) has six torque-transmitting mechanisms selectively engageable to produce forward speed ratios and reverse speed ratios between input and output shafts (12, 22). First and fourth connecting elements connect first set of elements of first and third planetary gear sets (14, 18) with first set of elements of second and fourth planetary gear sets (16, 20). Second and third connecting elements interconnect second and third set of elements of first and second planetary gear sets to third set of elements of fourth and third planetary gear sets.
