The transmission i.e. ten-speed transmission (10), has seven torque transmitting mechanisms e.g. cluthes (26-38), where each mechanism is selectively engageable to interconnect gears and a transmission housing. The seven torque transmitting mechanisms are selectively engageable in combinations of pair to establish ten forward speed ratios and a reverse speed ratio between an input shaft (12) and an output shaft (22). An interconnecting element continuously interconnects a sun gear (18A) of a planetary gear set (18) with a carrier element (20B) of another planetary gear set (20).
