The torsional vibration damper (1.1) has a primary side (1) for connection of drive. The transmit torque is provided in the primary side that is rotated relative to the secondary side (2) for connection of power take-off. A damping device damps the relative rotations between the primary side and the secondary side. The damping effect of the damping device is determined by variable attenuator value. The attenuation value depends on the speed of relative rotation between the primary side and the secondary side. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a motor vehicle; and (2) a method for damping torsional vibrations in a drive train.
