The method involves charging a lead-acid battery to its maximum capacity, and determining a level of sulfation of the battery (101). A sulfated material is regenerated (102) by applying a high frequency electric signal at the terminals of the battery. The battery is recharged (103), so as to charge the regenerated sulfated material, and the charge is maintained (104) in the battery, where the level of sulfation is determined from the measurement of internal resistance of the battery or the capacity of the battery. An independent claim is also included for a system for regenerating a lead battery of a car.
