The method involves detection of a state (E1) that is assimilated by a home automation device to a twilight of an external environment. An operating mode of the home automation device is applied and maintained (E2) during a lapse of time of predetermined duration. The operating mode is arranged so as to avoid detection of another state assimilated by the device to the twilight of the external environment. A passage of one configuration to another configuration of an element of the device is inhibited in the event of detection of a third state assimilated by the device to the twilight. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a home automation device (2) a home automation installation.
