A railway rescheduling system comprises a planned timetable 105a, 105b for a train. A current timetable 106a, 106b is obtained by manual change to the planned timetable. The operation of each train is estimated so that it satisfies a constraint, thus producing an estimation timetable 108a, 108b. An allowable delay estimation timetable 109a, 109b obtained there-from includes an allowable delay in the arrival time at a terminal station as compared to the planned timetable. Allowable delay estimation timetables may specify that trains use different platforms and depart from a station in different orders from those specified in planned timetables, e.g. allowing one train 707 to overtake another 708. The planned, current and proposed allowable delay timetables may be displayed graphically to support rescheduling to increase the number of trains arriving within the allowable delay.
