PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video data storage system in which long-time storage of video data can be implemented and even when a storage device connected to a host unit is to transcode video data, the host unit is enabled to recognize and manage the video data.;SOLUTION: A host unit 2 transmits to a storage device 10 video data of the MPEG-2 format to be compressed according to a first compression method and transmits an instruction for compressing the video data of the MPEG-2 format according to the H.264 format. In the storage device 10, the video data of the MPEG-2 format is converted into video data of the H,264 format by a transcoder 12 and the video data of the H.264 format is transmitted to the host unit 2.
