An intramedullary nail comprising a posterior side, an anterior side, a proximal portion and a distal portion is described. A lateral hole is disposed in the proximal portion, and the lateral hole is configured to insert a bone engaging member. The lateral hole has at least two indentations formed in the inner wall of the lateral hole, one of the indentations is disposed on the rear side of the lateral hole of the intramedullary nail, and the other of the indentations is disposed on the front side of the lateral hole.
