PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent feeding failure of a bank note at a lowermost part and short bank notes by keeping the end of the bank note at the lowermost part and the short bank notes sandwiched by long bank notes from retreating beyond a pressing part of a backup member when a feeding roller and separation roller are reversely rotated and the bank note bundle as a whole is retreated by a predetermined distance.SOLUTION: An apparatus comprises a reversely rotatable feeding roller 10, a backup member 12 for contacting and separating from other surface of a bank note bundle, a reversely rotatable separation roller for feeding a fed bank note to a downstream by contacting one surface of the bank note, and a stop roller arranged oppositely relative to the separation roller and regulating its rotation in the feeding direction. A relationship between a coefficient of friction of the feeding roller defined as 1, a coefficient of friction between the bank notes as 2, and a coefficient of friction of the backup member as 3' is as follows: 12 and 1-23'.
