PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a self-propelled large-sized road cutting machine which can be multi-purposely used and has improved controllability, and a road surface cutting method.SOLUTION: A self-propelled road cutting machine includes: a height-adjustable vehicle body 4; a machine frame 8 supported by the vehicle body 4; a cutting roller housing 10 arranged in the machine frame 8; a cutting roller 12 in the cutting roller housing 10; and conveyor belt means 18 for removing cuttings cut away by the cutting roller 12. The conveyor belt means 18 discharges cuttings cut away in the front direction, and a tip 22 of the cutting roller housing 10 is substantially flush with lateral outer side surfaces 26, 28 of the machine frame 8 in order to perform cutting as close to an edge or an obstacle as possible.
