PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for manufacturing an electrode for use in an energy storage device, which is high in capacity and excellent in rapid charging properties and causes no harmful effect on the environment, and to provide an energy storage device using the material.SOLUTION: There is provided an energy storage device that uses an electrode, in which the electrode uses, as an electrode material for a cathode or an anode, an oxy hydroxy salt including at least one ferrous-ferric lamellar double hydroxide (LDH) represented by the following formula, and having a theoretical electrical energy capacity of 245 Ah/kg or more.
