Product identification unit, point-of-sale information management terminal, and a method for point-of-sale information management

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a technology for identifying products by terahertz radiation detection.;SOLUTION: A prescribed area is illuminated by radiation within the range of terahertz frequencies. Terahertz radiation reflected by objects within the prescribed area is detected. For generating object identification information, detector signals are processed on the basis of detected radiation. Generated identification information can be compared with identification information stored in products. Results of the comparison are used for selecting a product or a group of products of matched comparison. By processing the detector signals, it is possible to generate spectral signatures peculiar to characteristics of the reflection and absorption of the illuminated objects.
