PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydroxy fatty acid derivative-containing material which has an excellent action, and has excellent safety, environmental properties and productivity, and to provide an EGF (epithelial cell growth factor) production promoter, an FGF-2 (fibroblast growth factor-2) production promoter, a fibronectin production promoter, a moisture retention function improver, a wrinkle formation inhibitor, a barrier function improver and food and drink, which contain the hydroxy fatty acid derivative-containing material.SOLUTION: The hydroxy fatty acid derivative-containing material contains a hydroxy fatty acid derivative represented by structural formula (1). The aspects of an EGF production promoter, an FGF-2 production promoter, a fibronectin production promoter, a moisture retention function improver, a wrinkle formation inhibitor, a barrier function improver or the like containing the hydroxy fatty acid derivative-containing material are preferable.
