PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microporous carbon-based material adsorbing a large amount of gases. PSOLUTION: This microporous carbon-based material has nitrogen in the carbon skeleton, a three-dimensional long-period regular structure having micropores in the inside, a BET surface area of 1,500 mSP2/SP/g and a nitrogen/carbon elemental ratio of 0.07. This microporous carbon-based material is obtained by a production method comprising a first step of introducing a nitrogen-containing organic compound to the surface and the inside of voids (micropores) of a porous material 1, and heating the nitrogen-containing organic compound to carbonize it; a second step of introducing an organic compound to the surface and the inside of voids of the porous material 1, and carbonize it in a vapor phase; and a third step of removing the porous material 1.
