The present invention relates to hyperbaric devices for the inactivation of microorganisms and viruses while maintaining their immunogenicity and for the creation and production of soluble, disaggregated, recompressed or active immunogenic or therapeutic proteins from inclusion bodies derived from prokaryotes or eukaryotes. The invention encompasses methods for hyperbaric inactivation of pathogenic organisms and methods for producing vaccine compositions using inactivated pathogenic microorganisms. Micro-inactivated microorganisms are safer and more immunogenic than chemically inactivated microorganisms. Similarly, solubilized proteins have superior properties compared to more strongly aggregated proteins, including a decrease in nonspecific immune responses.
