pProvided is a process for producing calcium carbide granules which when used for dry process acetylene generation neither enhance side reactions such as acetylene polymerization nor adversely affect the yield nor enhance the risk to safety due to an increase in reaction temperature. The process is for producing calcium carbide granules in which the content of granules having a diameter of 4 mm or larger is 5 wt.% or less and the content of granules having a diameter of 0.15 mm or smaller is 20 wt.% or less the process comprising the step (A) of crushing calcium carbide with a crusher the step (B) of putting the calcium carbide which has been crushed with the crusher through a screen having an opening size of 4 mm and the step (C) of introducing the calcium carbide remaining on the screen into the crusher again. The steps (A) to (C) are conducted in an inert gas atmosphere.
