The method for assaying the female patients for papilloma virus (HPV) of high carcinogenic risk provides for the use of polarized laser radiation collimated with the aid of the system of lenses and passed through the polarizing illuminator, the quarter-wave plate, and the polarizer for imaging the smear. The coherent image of the smear is passed through the analyzer and projected through the aperture in the plane of CD camera connected to a personal computer. The normal or pathological condition of the cervix is diagnosed in the aligned polarizer and analyzer. The native cytological specimens of cervix are irradiated with laser light in a wide spectral range (λ 0.330-0.750 µm). In addition, the linear dichroism and its spectral dependence are analyzed within the specified spectral range. The clinically insignificant HPV variants are detected by the maximal characteristic values within the range of λ 0.395-0.415 µm and clinically significant variant – within the range of λ 0.415-0.440 µm. According to the data of such assay, the patients with HPV of high carcinogenic risk are selected for DNA diagnostic assay by polymerase chain reaction (PCR).
