In the Philippines, the process of recovering lower body mobility has been left to the manual handling of physical therapists. As such, re-training of the basic walking motion of a single stroke victim would require multiple personnel. The inventors aim to reduce the workload of medical personnel by providing passive rehabilitation apparatus. The invention is a programmable robotic exoskeleton that can efficiently and precisely move a subject's leg to various desired positions at given times, effectively mimicking the walking motion of a healthy human being. It has a mechanical, electronic and software component which enables one personnel to facilitate the overall training of the patient. The invention allows the customizing of the patient's training sessions by accessing the software component of the invention. All training data may be stored and monitored in the apparatus for convenient evaluation of the patient's condition. It is also significantly cheaper compared to other rehabilitation devices.
