A confectionery composition for refreshing the breath of a consumer, the composition comprising: an antimicrobial active agent comprising a synergistic combination of magnolia bark extract and an essential oil; at least one of a sugar or a sugar alcohol; and where the confectionery composition further comprises a coating and where the synergistic combination is included in the coating.
