A method for allowing a user to contract video programs using an electronic television programming guide comprising an interactive interface, the procedure comprising: displaying, with the electronic television programming guide, information for a video program on a video display program listings for broadcast television programs; display, together with the information, an indication (401) that the video program is available for purchase, where the video program is available for purchase in a series of video program formats; display, in response to a user selection of the video program with a user-controlled selection medium, a format selection screen; allow the user to select, using the user-controlled selection medium, one of the series of formats from the format selection screen; and contract, in response to a user selection received from the user-controlled selection medium, the video program in the selected format.
