Process for the transformation of aliphatic hydrocarbons with 1 to 4 C atoms to give aromatic hydrocarbons comprising the steps: a) transformation of a reactant stream E containing at least one aliphatic hydrocarbon with 1 to 4 C atoms, in the presence of a catalyst, under non-oxidative conditions to give a product stream P containing aromatic hydrocarbons and hydrogen and b) electrochemical separation of at least a part of the hydrogen, produced during the transformation, of the product stream P by means of a membrane-electrode assembly gas-tight that has at least one proton-conducting membrane selectively and, on each side of the membrane, at least one electrode catalyst, oxidizing on the membrane retaining side at least a portion of the hydrogen in the catalyst anode to proton and reducing protons after crossing the membrane on the permeate side in the tasting cathode lizer partially b1) with application of a voltage to give hydrogen and partially transforming b2) with generation of electric current with oxygen to give water, the oxygen coming from an oxygen-containing current O that contacts the permeate side of the membrane.
