A composition for use in stimulating an immune response in a patient who has cancer, or for use in stimulating an immune response in an individual at risk of developing cancer whereby said composition stimulates a CTL response to tumor cells that can arising in said individual, said composition comprises a mixture of two or more different allogeneic tumor cells wherein at least one of said allogeneic tumor cells comprises tumor progenitor cells, each of said tumor cells naturally secretes an immunosuppressive agent that is TGF-beta or PGE-2 and has been genetically modified to inhibit the expression or activity of said immunosuppressive agent, in which the different cells in said mixture collectively express tumor-associated antigens such that a spectrum of antigens associated with Representative tumors of colon, breast, lung, prostate, pancreas, kidney, endometrium, cervix, ovary, thyroid, or other glandular tissue carcinomas or melanomas, cancer of the central nervous system or lymphoma.
