SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MINIMIZING CALL SETUP LATENCY IN A GROUP COMMUNICATION AMONG WIRELESS COMMUNICATION DEVICES

A system and method for minimizing callsetup latency in a group communication among wirelesscommunication devices by ensuring the requisite amount ofcommunication bandwidth for group member devices thatutilize separate communication systems to control communicationchannels established with each of the wirelesscommunication devices. A group communication serverthat sets up group communications for wireless communicationdevice members of a communication group communicateswith a resource manager resident on a communicationsystem to reserve a predetermined amount of resources,such as bandwidth, for wireless communicationdevices utilizing that communication system that are membersof a communication group. The resource managercommunicates the availability to the group communicationserver of the wireless communication devices utilizing thatcommunication system for group communications only ifthe predetermined resources are available for a groupcommunication to the wireless communication device.
