A method and apparatus for integrating a voice messaging system (VMS) and an instant messaging system, the method comprising: in order to agree protocol specification, a VMS sends a service request message, by means of a VMS interface oriented towards the instant messaging system, to the instant messaging system to provide service; in order to agree protocol specification, the VMS receives a service request message from the instant messaging system by means of the VMS interface oriented towards the instant messaging system, and provides service. The embodiments of the present invention integrate IT into CT services, such that the user can compatibly enjoy traditional VMS services and combined services spanning both IT and CT.
