A method for calculating the interaction position of a gamma photon with a scintillator crystal (7) in a sensor (6) of a positron emission tomography (PET) system (1), said calculation method comprising the following steps: A- Measuring first and second quantities of light energy representative of a photoelectric interaction from the interaction of the gamma photon with the scintillator crystal (7), said first and second quantities of light energy being measured respectively at first (7a) and second (7b) opposing ends of the scintillator crystal (7) between which said scintillator crystal (7) extends, B- determining first and second estimations of the interaction position respectively from the first and second quantities of light energy measured, C- calculating the interaction position from a weighted average of the first and second estimations.
