The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for drying and dry distillation or pyrolysis, in which the majority of the heat of vaporization can be recycled; a loading vehicle enters a heating channel having a heating apparatus using indirect heat conduction or radiation heat transfer, said channel also being provided with a low temperature preheating stage and a high temperature heating stage. By means of setting the length of the low temperature heating stage and the high temperature heating stage, controlling the travel speed of the loading vehicle, and adjusting the indirect heat conduction or radiation heat transfer heating apparatus, optimal results are achieved in cooling and condensation of steam and exhaust, and drying and dry distillation or pyrolysis. A material which has undergone drying or low temperature dry distillation can be continuously or intermittently fed into an independent heating channel, then heated, dry distilled, and pyrolyzed. The gaseous products of the independent heating channel are collected, separated, and processed; the steam produced by the heating apparatus using indirect heat conduction or radiation heat transfer is recycled back to any one of the preceding heating channels. The method and apparatus allow for saving energy and reducing consumption substantially, are environmentally friendly and easy to control, and the equipment is simple and inexpensive to manufacture and can be readily produced on a large scale.
