A portable terminal includes a display device, a detection unit that detects the posture of the portable terminal; and a storage unit that stores new-arrival information of an event when the event is generated. The portable terminal is also provided with: a first display control unit that causes the display device to display a first tile-like object associated with the new-arrival information and a second tile-like object not associated with the new-arrival information when a first posture is detected by the detection unit; and a second display control unit that causes the display device to display the new-arrival information stored by the storage unit when a second posture is detected by the detection unit.
