This extracorporeal terminal is provided with: a wireless communication unit which includes a plurality of antenna elements, and which transmits and receives signals to and from a capsule endoscope capable of having the frame rate thereof set; a storage unit having, stored therein, a position database indicating a relationship between coordinates and the frame rate; a position estimation unit which uses the signal level of a signal received by the wireless communication unit to estimate the position of the capsule endoscope; and a frame-rate setting unit which, in cases when the distance between a position indicated by the coordinates included in the position database stored in the storage unit, and the position of the capsule endoscope estimated by the position estimation unit, is less than a preset distance threshold value, sets the frame rate in accordance with the coordinates. The wireless communication unit transmits, to the capsule endoscope, a signal indicating the frame rate set by the frame-rate setting unit.
