The present invention relates to a mercenary character operating method in an online game. The mercenary character operating method according to an embodiment of the present invention enables a user to double the interest of an online game with familiarity by: searching the character of a registered friend; designating a mercenary character which has artificial intelligence corresponding to the searched friend character; and enabling a user character and the mercenary character to perform the online game.
