The present invention relates to an upper backpressure scroll compressor with a separate backpressure chamber. The scroll compressor according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a casing; a discharge cover which is fixed in the casing to divide the interior of the casing into a suction space and a discharge space; a main frame which is arranged to be space apart from the discharge cover; an orbiting scroll which is supported on the main frame to move in an orbiting motion; a fixing scroll which is installed to be able to move in the vertical direction against the orbiting scroll and forms a suction chamber, an intermediate pressing chamber, and a discharge chamber with the orbiting scroll; a backpressure plate which is fixed by the fixing scroll on the lower part of the discharge cover, has an open upper part a space unit linked to the intermediate pressing chamber and the discharge chamber; and a floating plate which is movably coupled to the backpressure plate to form a backpressure chamber to seal the space unit.
