The present invention relates to a method for preparing glycerol carbonate characeterized in that the glycerol carbonate is easily synthesized under a relatively mild reaction condition by using metal containing ionic liquid (MIL) as a catalyst. The present invention is beneficial in that: the catalyst used in the present invention is a metal composite to which a metal salt and various 1-alkyl imidazole are coordinated through a precipitation reaction in the presence of a solvent, so that benefits of ionic liquid are intactly retained, and acidic and basic characteristics are simultaneously exhibited to thereby having better reactivity and stability than the conventional catalyst; and the catalyst can synthesize glycerol carbonate at a significantly high yield under relatively mild condition for other catalysts.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2015
