The present invention relates to a novel Lactobacillus brevis 4-12 with enhanced GABA production capacity and to a method for preparing kimchi comprising the same and, more specifically, to a Lactobacillus brevis -12(KFCC11547P) with enhanced production capacity of GABA which is isolated and identified from the Kimchi and to a method for preparing the Kimchi by optimally using the GABA production capacity owned by the lactobacillus by comprising the strain. Also, Kimchi and health functional foods with enhanced functionality which comprise large amount of GABA can be prepared by using the Lactobacillus brevis 4-12 (KFCC11547P).
