The present invention relates to major ampullate spidroin proteins derived from orbweaver spiders (Araneus ventricosus) having glucose-lowering and insulin secretion promoting activities, a pharmaceutical composition including the same as an active ingredient to prevent and treat diabetes and diabetic complications, and a dietary supplement also including the same as an active ingredient to treat diabetes and diabetic complications. According to the present invention, the major ampullate spidroin proteins derived from orbweaver spiders have the glucose-lowering and insulin secretion promoting activities and are used to effectively prevent, alleviate, and treat the diabetes and diabetic complications. Accordingly, the major ampullate spidroin proteins can be used in various industrial fields including medicine and dietary supplements.
