The present invention relates to a method for detecting and recognizing a face for an automated recognition system such as artificial intelligence and an intelligent surveillance system. The method includes the steps of: extracting a local block texture feature map from an input image; detecting a face area from the extracted local block texture feature map; and recognizing the face by using the detected face. According to an embodiment of the present invention, when a face is detected and recognized, detection and recognition of a face are executed at the same time by using an integrated local block texture feature vector, extracted from the input image.
