A vehicle equipment apparatus detects relative locations of other vehicles driving in front of a host vehicle thereof, and derives a value of a probability which each of the other vehicles will be located in the travel path of the host vehicle. A signal indicating a rate of the host vehicle is used to derive the probabilities and filtered to exclude a range of high frequency signal components. The excluded range is expanded if the rate is determined to abruptly exceed the range and be changing.
