The present invention relates to a method of selecting an optimum member by means of a value analysis for calculating an optimum member in relation to a construction cost by selecting a member shape and a member section based on construction conditions and loads at the time of construction of a civil engineer or a building. A preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of: (a) analyzing a construction condition; (b) calculating a load according to the construction condition; (c) calculating the length of the basic member in consideration of an influence factor affecting the basic member according to the calculated load; (d) selecting a combination of cross-sectional shapes of the base member to determine a cross-sectional shape; (e) calculating the construction cost by reflecting the cross-sectional shape determined in the step (d); (f) repeating steps (d) and (e); (g) comparing the construction costs calculated for each cross-sectional shape in steps (e) and (f), and determining the cross-section of the basic member to select the optimal member.
