Germ plasma of canola, giving canola seeds a content of at least about 45% crude protein and not more than about 18% acid-detergent fiber, as determined by comparative chemistry, in terms of oil-free dry matter. Canola seeds according to claim 1, further comprising not more than approximately 18% acid-detergent fiber, calculated on the basis of the oil-free dry substance. Canola seeds according to claim 1, further comprising at least one additional trait selected from the group consisting of a reduced polyphenol content and a high phosphorus content. Canola seeds according to claim 1, additionally containing at least two additional traits selected from the group consisting of a reduced content of polyphenols and a high content of phosphorus. A canola plant containing canola germplasm according to claim 1.7. A canola plant according to claim 6, further comprising at least one additional characteristic selected from the group consisting of a reduced polyphenol content and a high phosphorus content.
