The invention relates to a coating device (1) for coating foodstuffs with a coating material, in particular with sugar solution or with a solution based on sugar substitute, with a housing (2), a coating chamber (9) within the housing (2) a dispenser (6) is placeable for dispensing the coating material, and a circulating belt (3), which forms part of the lining of the coating chamber (9) in sections and is provided as a support surface for the food. More particularly, the invention relates to a plying apparatus in which the band (3) comprises a plurality of gas passages (30) adapted to accelerate solidification of the coating material.
