A first aspect of the invention relates to a method for adjusting a driving speed of a motor vehicle regulated via a driver assistance system. The motor vehicle includes an ultrasonic sensor system for object recognition of vehicles external to the vehicle. The driver assistance system is preferably a parking assistance system with automated transverse and longitudinal guidance. The object recognition of an object located in the detection range of the ultrasonic sensor system is delayed by a latency time dependent on potential ultrasonic interference sources. According to the method, the presence of an increased latency of the object recognition is determined. The driving speed is adapted to this.
