The invention relates to self-cleaning surface with self-regenerating self-cleaning effect, which has a coating with an artificial, at least partially hydrophobic surface structure of elevations and depressions, wherein the elevations and depressions are formed by hydrophobic particles fixed on the surface by means of a carrier system, and the carrier system comprises a mixture structure-forming hydrophobic particles and binder, wherein the mixture additionally comprises a substance which catalyzes the destruction of the binder used upon irradiation of UV radiation. Moreover, the invention relates to a corresponding carrier system. By means of the invention self-cleaning surfaces are accessible, the self-cleaning properties regenerate independently. This is achieved by using a carrier system which, in addition to a curable binder and the structuring particles, also has a substance which destroys the binder when exposed to UV radiation. If the structure-forming particles are not permeable to UV radiation, just enough binder is destroyed by irradiating UV radiation that the entire surface of the coating is formed by structuring particles. If the particles wear out or the coating is injured and UV light reaches the substance again, the binder is again destroyed at the appropriate points until the surface is again formed only by the structure-forming particles. The surfaces according to the invention can be applied to all surfaces of objects. Preferably, the surfaces according to the invention are applied to objects which are directly or indirectly exposed to solar radiation.
