An optical system for generating a patterned light field comprises a series of light sources and a structuring unit separate from the row of light sources, the patterning unit being refractive or reflective, and the output of that row of light sources by collimating the light beam of each individual light source and directing each beam at vertical and horizontal angles, which can be arbitrarily selected by refraction or reflection, into the scene transformed into a stripe light illumination.
