The invention describes a device and a method for triggering a defecation by means of rectal enemas, whereby it is ensured, in particular in cases of lack of sensitive perception of the defecation event, that the intestine can spontaneously empty itself on reaching a certain peristaltic activity without the intervention of the patient. For this purpose, the catheter catheter of the inlet catheter occluding the bowel is provided with an opening mechanism for decompression, whereby the force inducing the mechanism is caused by a contraction of the bowel wall lining the balloon and the resulting pressure increase in the balloon serves an external mechanism which outwardly expands the catheter balloon opens and thus causes its emptying, whereupon the intestinal contents of a patient can empty.
