The present invention proposes to produce a catalyst for the denitrification of the following manner: - there is obtained a first component (a) by successive activation by nitric acid, of a compound based on carbon in divided form, rinsing, impregnation with a solution of urea and calcining; - there is obtained a second component (b) in powder form, by successively, precipitation of metal hydroxides, drying and calcining; and - mixing of the first component and the second component, so that the mixture obtained contains between 25% and 75% by weight of the first component.
