SUPPORTED CO-ZN SPINEL CATALYST FOR THE ABATEMENT OF NITROGEN(I) OXIDE EMISSIONS ESPECIALLY FROM NITRIC ACID PLANTS AND A METHOD FOR ITS MANUFACTURE

The subject of the present invention is a supported catalyst for the abatement of nitrogen(I) oxide especially from nitric acid plants as well as from other sources of gases emitted to atmosphere, and a method for its manufacture. The method for the preparation of the catalyst is characterised in that it contains an active phase of a spinel structure composed of cobalt oxide and zinc oxide at a weight ratio of 4-8:1 in terms of straight oxides Co₃O₄:ZnO and an alkaline promoter in the form of potassium at a weight ratio of 50-120:1 with respect to Co₃O₄, loaded on a formed support composed of α-Al₂O₃, whereas the amount of the active phase is 1-25% wt., preferably 5-20% wt. of the catalyst.
