The method involves detecting presence of a user by detecting an open or close action of the user on a window covering element (1) using a sensor (8a) having a radio frequency identification element. A locating unit (7) e.g. visual/audible signal generator, is activated to locate a remote control unit (4) during a motorized movement of the covering element after detecting the presence of the user. The motorized movement is activated on expiry of a time-out triggered by the detection of the presence of the user. The locating unit is deactivated on expiry of another time-out. An independent claim is also included for a system for controlling a window covering element, comprising an actuator.
